Coming soonWhat happens when rubbish just pile up
Cardboard feels harmless sitting in the garage — but left alone too long, it turns into a landfill problem, a burn hazard, or a pest magnet. Here's the real data.
It piles up in landfills
Corrugated boxes recycle at a 96.5% rate nationally, but paper & paperboard waste still makes up 17.2 million tons — 11.8% of everything landfilled in the U.S. each year. Boxes left out too long, rained on, or stained by food usually can't be recycled at all.
Burning it is dangerous
Printed ink, glue, and wax coatings release dioxins, furans, and VOCs when burned — linked to respiratory irritation and asthma flare-ups. Backyard fires carry real injury risk too: U.S. emergency departments treat over 200,000 burn injuries a year, two-thirds of them at home, and unintentional carbon monoxide exposure alone sends 100,000+ people to the ER annually.
It invites pests indoors
Roaches feed on the glue, silverfish eat the cellulose, and rodents shred cardboard for nesting material. The longer boxes sit — especially if damp — the more attractive they become. It's not cheap to fix, either: pest control averages $187 a visit, rodent removal runs up to $744, and a serious infestation can cost thousands to fully clear.

Built on a family legacy
Box Runner was born from legacy — a tribute to Rebecca Cannon's father, Ken Moss — a master floor installer whose contractor self-service business, Ken Moss Installations, stood on the pillars of quality, integrity, and community.
Rebecca brings over three decades of leadership experience and built Box Runner's service model from the ground up, focused on reliability and respect — carefully designed routes, refined workflows, and a platform that treats Runners like professionals.
Today Box Runner continues that vision: creating new income opportunities for self-employed contractors while strengthening the community it calls home.
